Cloncurry Solar Farm

The Queensland Government has named, Ingenero as the preferred tender to design, construct and operate the $6.76 million Cloncurry Solar Farm.

The government is investing $5.7 million towards the 2.128 megawatt solar farm which will comprise 7,600 polycrystalline silicon photovoltaic panels mounted on multiple rows at an angle of 25o and facing due north to maximize the exposure to the sun’s rays.

These panels will generate approximately 3,700 megawatt hours of electricity per year which is enough to power approximately 500 households.

Subject to contract finalisation and Ingenero gaining relevant approvals, the solar farm is expected to be built on land close to the Cloncurry North substation, with preliminary site works and testing to commence shortly and construction scheduled from July 2012.

Cloncurry is an ideal location for a solar farm and shire residents will benefit from the clean renewable energy that it will contribute to their local electricity supply.

The Cloncurry Solar Farm will also help examine the potential to develop solar farms elsewhere in Queensland; particularly where electricity network connections are unavailable.

Do the bright thing - help build a virtual solar power station for Queensland

Town by town we’ve already doubled Queensland’s use of solar energy to 500 megawatts in less than two years – more than three years ahead of schedule. Projects like the Cloncurry Solar Farm are helping Queensland build a virtual solar power station. You can do the bright thing too by installing a solar hot water system or solar PV system on your home.
